August 2008 - The Arrowhead Villas risk mitigation project is
underway!  Contracts have been awarded to local businesses
and work is progressing on the first set of roads to be cleaned
up.   Trees and brush along Larchmont, Oakmont, Ivy and
Sycamore will be pruned back to allow fire equipment to get IN
and visitors and residents OUT.

August 2008 - The California State Senate passes SB1617
(Kehoe-SD). This measure would require CalFire to collect a
$50 surcharge for any structure which exists in an area
protected by CalFire resources (aka 'State Responsibility Area'
or 'SRA').  This money would be placed into a fund and used for
fire-prevention grants, education and inspections.  This bill has
now moved to the State Assembly for further review.

June 2008 - Busy Month! - Access Road Projects are
underway near Old Toll, Cottonwood and Thunderbird. We're
working with responsible local contractors to remove
obstructions and hazardous fuels along access roads in these
areas, making them accessible to fire equipment.

May 2008 - Governor Schwarzenegger signs Executive Order
S-03-08, authorizing increased staffing and enforcement duties
for CalFire.  Most notably, Cal Fire is directed to focus attention
on the 100-foot fire clearance already mandated by Public
Resource Code 4291.

April 2008 - As our fuel reduction projects in the Yosemite area
draw to a close, we're moving our focus to North Bay Road, Golf
Course Road and Fairway.  We'll be working with local
contractors and fire agenices to clear access roads in these
neighborhoods over the next few weeks.  More details will be
posted on this site as they become available.

March 2008 - ACFSC is proud to announce that we have
secured a $350,000 federal grant which allows us to continue
our fuel reduction projects on the mountain!

February 2008 - Working with local contractors, ACFSC is
continuing our hazardous fuels mitigation efforts by clearing
access roads in the northern Lake Arrowhead area.  In addition
to removing tons of flammable brush from these roads, these
projects allow firefighters access to otherwise impenetrable
parts of our community.  Similar projects in Deer Lodge Park
and the Walnut Hills area proved very useful during the Grass
Valley Fire.

February 2008 - ACFSC is working closely with the Arrowhead
Villas homeowners association to implement new signage in that
community.  The new signage is designed to show firefighters
and other visitors the fastest path to safety in case of an
emergency.

February 2008 - In the third phase of our Deer Lodge Park
community safety project, ACFSC is working with homeowners,
the US Forest Service and local fire agencies to make the roads
in that community easier for fire engines to navigate.  Currently
under consideration are T-shaped turnarounds to allow fire
trucks easier navigation on selected dead-end streets.
